CHESHIRE CAT asymmetrical peplum Fuchsia Jacket AND Tiered Lace Hem JUMPSUIT
The Cheshire Cat lived under constant threat of execution by the Queen’s orders, yet its ability to vanish—sometimes leaving only fragments behind—ensured its survival. I drew from this as a metaphor for minorities, especially women of color, who must continually adapt to hostility and unnecessary obstacles. This resilience creates an almost supernatural ability to endure, one that is often both envied and misunderstood, leading to tension and confusion. In society, we find ourselves competing to mirror one another—minorities striving for acceptance within the majority, while the majority aspires to the uniqueness of the minority. The Cheshire Cat’s famous line, “We’re all mad,” resonates here, reflecting the shared chaos of our collective struggles and identities.
The jumpsuit bodice is crafted from white Florence stretch lace with bust darts and a center front seam for fit. Black scuba double knit fabric for the wide-leg pant with 2 tiered white lace flounces at the hem. Side slits beginning at mid-calf and fuchsia exposed zipper at the center back.
Th asymmetrical jacket is hand-dyed using ethical practices. Crafted from canvas cotton, it features a subtle leg-o’-mutton sleeve. The jacket has mixed-media closures in fuchsia charmeuse stretch satin and modern pink corded lace, with a matching satin collar. The back bodice is hand-painted with the phrase “We’re All Mad.” Fully lined in fuchsia charmeuse stretch satin through the bodice, with the peplum skirt lined in white Florence stretch lace.
